Fraud management

Blabber’s fraud management system automatically flags and handles different types of referral program manipulation and abuse to protect your program’s integrity and keep it fair for everyone. The table below outlines the most common fraud scenarios, how they’re detected, and what actions are taken.

Type Example
Self-referrals
  • The mobile app user created a referrer account using the phone number 555-555-5555.
  • Referrer syncs their phone contacts and clicks on a contact (referral) with the same number—555-555-5555—i.e., attempting to refer themselves.
  • The introduction won’t be sent. Instead, the user will see the message: “Oops! Self-referrals aren’t allowed.”
Self-referrals
  • The mobile app user created a referrer account using the phone number 555-555-5555.
  • Referrer syncs their phone contacts and clicks on a contact (referral) with the phone number 666-666-6666.
  • However, when the referrer's native SMS app was opened, the introduction was sent from 666-666-6666—i.e., the user was attempting to refer themselves.
  • The introduction will still be sent, but it will be marked as a “Test lead” in both the web app and mobile app.
  • Test leads do not count toward lead credits.
  • Test leads can be deleted from the web app and mobile app.
Salesperson dual commission
  • The mobile app user created a referrer account using the phone number 555-555-5555.
  • The referrer syncs their phone contacts and clicks on a referral with the number 444-444-4444.
  • The referrer selects a referral recipient with the phone number 666-666-6666.
  • However, when the referrer's native SMS app opened, the message was sent from 666-666-6666—the same number as the recipient.
  • The introduction will still be sent, but it will be marked as a “Test lead” in both the web app and mobile app.
  • Test leads do not count toward lead credits.
  • Test leads can be deleted from the web app and mobile app.
Referring coworkers

It’s smart to let team members—as long as they’re not in sales—join your referral program and earn commission for bringing in new business.

But they shouldn’t refer coworkers, since the goal is to reach people who don’t already know about your company.

If any of the following are true:

  • The referral’s email domain matches the domain of one of the locations in your Blabber account websites.
  • The referral’s phone number matches the phone number of a user in your Blabber account (either for login or introductions).
  • The referral’s email address matches the email of a user in your Blabber account (either for login or introductions).

Then the introduction won’t be sent. Instead, the user will see the message: “Oops! Self-referrals aren’t allowed.”
